How to care for and clean a Corian® countertop

Care for Corian® Solid Surface should follow the current manufacturer instructions for the exact product. This guide focuses on Corian®-branded surfaces; it should not automatically be applied to other acrylic or quartz products.

A gentle start for everyday cleaning

Clean everyday splashes and light soil with a soft cloth, warm water and a mild cleaner permitted by the manufacturer. Rinsing and drying the surface afterwards can reduce visible water marks and soap residue. Do not scrub with steel wool, a sharp scraper or an abrasive product that the product instructions do not approve.

The Corian® care page provides recommendations for its product families; locate the instructions for your surface colour and finish before using a method. Manufacturer documents can be updated over time. If you are uncertain about a household cleaner's ingredients, follow the product guidance and test only a small, inconspicuous area or ask the manufacturer's representative.

Treat spills and stains promptly

Wipe up coffee, tea, juice, oil and similar spills without leaving them on the surface for a prolonged period. Blot with a clean cloth and avoid forceful rubbing that spreads a stain over a larger area. The manufacturer may specify an additional step for a particular product family, so do not treat general internet advice as a chemical-use instruction.

Using a solvent or bleach on coloured liquids, paint, ink or adhesive residue can affect the surface or nearby sealants and fittings. Do not mix chemicals that the product sheet does not permit. If a stain remains, note the product name, colour and finish, then ask the appropriate technical support contact for guidance.

Hot cookware and heat protection

Unless the manufacturer specifically permits it, do not place a hot pan, pot or appliance directly on the countertop. A trivet or heat-resistant pad can help reduce the risk of a sudden temperature change or local damage. Keep clearances and heat shields around ovens, hobs and built-in appliances consistent with the approved installation drawing.

Heat damage may not be obvious immediately; discolouration, a change in sheen or a fine crack can develop. Check the product's heat warnings alongside the appliance manufacturer's installation distances. Share the intended use with your fabricator before specifying a commercial kitchen or an area exposed to high heat.

Scratches, dulling and small surface marks

Do not cut directly on the countertop: a chopping board protects the surface and can also help knives retain their edge. Dragging hard objects, moving grit or mineral particles across the top and using the wrong cleaning pad can leave dull marks. Whether a light mark from everyday use can be removed depends on the particular finish.

Some Corian® surfaces have manufacturer-described options for refinishing or addressing minor scratches. Because the sheen may change, do not generalise sanding, cream cleansers or abrasive pads as a do-it-yourself method. For a deep cut, crack, chip or larger damaged area, first request a professional assessment using photos and the product code.

Why can the finish look different?

Gloss, semi-matt and matt surfaces reflect light differently. Local polishing or abrasion from cleaning can look like a change in tone even if the material is not structurally damaged. Inspect the surface from more than one angle and follow care advice that matches the selected sheen level.

Hard-water deposits, soap residue and droplets left to dry can be especially visible on darker colours. Drying with a soft cloth and allowing the top to air after use can help maintain its appearance. If you do not know the finish, check the fabrication or sales records; an unsuitable polish can leave a lasting difference in sheen.

Getting appropriate support for damage

If damage occurs, identify the brand, product code, purchase date and installer first. A general cleaning tip cannot determine warranty coverage or the correct professional repair process. Keep close-up and wider photographs of the area together with notes about how the countertop is used, then contact the manufacturer or fabricator for product-specific guidance.

Warranty terms can depend on country, product, residential or commercial use and installation records. Request written warranty and care terms applicable in Turkey. Another brand's care instructions or a warranty statement for a different country is not a binding document for your Corian® product; use the records for the exact item installed.
